Sir Walter Scott and Opera – Recital with Scottish Opera July 2014

[from www.scottishopera.org.uk/our-operas/14-15/sir-walter-scott-and-opera]

These imaginative recitals celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of the Waverley Novels. Curated by Head of Music Derek Clark, the programme is inspired by some of Scott’s most popular works.

Rich with romanticism and full of the supernatural, Scott’s novels and poetry have been a well-mined source for generations of composers, and have inspired over 80 operas. These intimate recitals feature work by Donizetti, Rossini and Bizet as well as Arthur Sullivan, of Gilbert and Sullivan fame, and Scottish composer Hamish MacCunn.

Visiting four of Scotland’s most singular and beautiful venues, including The Hub in Edinburgh, St Machar’s Cathedral in Aberdeen and Òran Mór in Glasgow, a stellar line-up brings the programme to life, accompanied by Derek Clark on piano. The tour also includes a recital at Scott’s own home, Abbotsford House, on Monday 7 July – the anniversary of the publication of Waverley, the first of the author’s world-famous series.

Colvin makes Brussels/Paris debut as Jaquino – June 2014

UPDATE June 2014:  Reviews for Jaquino

“le Canadien Michael Colvin confère un caractère bien trempé à Jaquino, un personnage qui passe facilement inaperçu si un chanteur plus insignifiant s’en empare.”
“Michael Colvin presents a lively character in Jaquino, a character that is easily missed if a more insignificant singer takes it on.” Sebastian Foucart, ConcertoNet.com

“Tous les rôles principaux sont tenus par des chanteurs impressionnants… Michael Colvin en Jaquino livre également une très bonne prestation”
“All the principal roles were taken by impressive singers… Michael Colvin as Jaquino delivers a very good performance”
Claude Jottrand, ForumOpera.com
